Penthouse

When we were asked by this globe-trotting family to work on the latest addition to their property portfolio, we were over-joyed. Not only are the rooms airy and spacious, but the view is to die for, and as a newly converted Cotton Mill, the duplex apartment was a blank canvas. As a turn-key project, there was an emphasis on getting all the details right, before the Client returned to view the completed project.

The developers had stripped out the period details, but the high ceilings remained, and this gave the property a real sense of luxury. Engineered wood floors lent the reception rooms character, and big windows out on to the views meant this could be a really special home, if we could just add a little character – as the Client put it, to give it a ‘touch of SGH magic’.

Downstairs, in the large double bedrooms, we installed contemporary, bespoke built-in wardrobes, which work as a good foil for the textures added to the bedrooms. The developers had specified Farrow & Ball Greys, so we worked with these colours, but warmed them up using beached woods, and huge prints. Upstairs, we kept the furniture low, so the view is king. As you walk in, the view is breath-taking, but then to ensure interest on winter evenings, we added texture to the wall with a Jane Churchill wall-covering; bespoke upholstered furniture in velvets and wools; wood & brass accents and contemporary rugs and cushions. The highest compliment: When our Clients saw it for the first time, and declared that they would rather live in it than let it out.
